Have you tried doing a staycation?

When you book a hotel in the same city where you are staying currently they call it a staycation- Vacation where you stay!!Singapore being a small country, the concept of staycation here is quite common.

I had some points which I could redeem at a hotel in Singapore and there are  a few hotels here which looked very tempting. One was The Fullerton hotel which is a heritage hotel of Singapore at the CBD ( Central Business District) area.

The Fullerton Hotel

We had planned it on a Saturday in July as Singapore has National day fireworks practise every Saturday leading to 9th of August (the national day).

Why would one want to do a staycation?

Our stay was amazing; the area around Fullerton is worth exploring and has some beautiful tourist spots. We had visited all of them before but some places you can visit from here are:

Places to visit in Singapore near Fullerton hotel.

Bars and Restaurants around Fullerton.

For us it was more to rest and enjoy the hotel and as well as the fireworks. We checked in around 4:30 to our upgraded, swimming pool view room with balcony. We had already been to a bar called Red Dot which brews amazing beers, and you should really visit this place.  The room was beautiful, with a huge bath with whirlpool. We rested for an hour or so before exploring their restaurant The TOWN. It had amazing cocktails and high tea, and view of the Singapore river.

Post this we took the underpass from Fullerton to the Fullerton Bay hotel, which has the bar called Lantern.

The beautiful Lantern.

It has the most amazing view to the Marina Bay and national day practise. The walk was beautiful with rain and wind.

We stood there for 15 minutes and enjoyed the most spectacular fireworks.Whenever I see works it feels like a scene from a fairytale or a happy Hollywood movie. Singapore has one of the most amazing fireworks you can enjoy and moreover you have it for like 5-6 weeks straight and the rehersal sessions are as good as the actual one.

Post the fireworks it was time for dinner, and we went to this fabulous German Burger place called Hans I’m gluck. Oh they have the most balanced burgers I ever had, a little expensive but amazing. They have a lot of vegetarian, vegan and non-veg options. The burgers come with a choice of a side and a cocktail and is a treat to have, My new favourite  eating joint in Singapore. The ambience is very casual and they have barks of trees decorating the place. After dinner and deserts we went back to the hotel to explore the bars there.

The 8th floor of Fullerton has the lighthouse and the rooftop bar. The view of Marina Bay from there is spectacular. The rooftop bar is very romantic with white curtains and amazing jazz music. It is a very cosy place and definitely worth a visit.

We went to the 5th floor rooftop garden as well but the place is for mainly wedding ceremonies etc, beautifully decorated for a small family function.

Roof Garden.

Bathtubs and Swimming Pool

It was time to go and enjoy the bathtub and whirlpool of the room. The water temperature was perfect and the whirlpool was simply amazing as it relaxes your body and relieves you of minor pain etc. The room has Harman Kardon Onyx speaker and the sound quality is a notch better than Bose ones we have our home. With some light music and a bath bomb in the whirlpool, the night ended peacefully and we slept like babies. Staycations do make a difference.

The swimming pool at the Fullerton and the Fullerton Bay hotel are a treat. They are infinity pools with amzing views of the business area around it.

There was a wide-spread of breakfast at The Town, ranging from Indian dishes, to creals flakes and English muffins and fruit selection.  After an amazing breakfast it was time to check out.

This was my first staycation and I really enjoyed the idea, have you ever done a staycation before? Share your ideas, tips and pictures here in the comments.
